This event was the largest to affect south-central Alaska since a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in May 2021. Alaska is the most earthquake-prone state in the U.S. and experiences frequent seismic activity. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near Anchorage, Alaska, on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the event, which was widely felt across the region but resulted in no immediate reports of significant damage or a tsunami threat.
